Looking for a fun, local-mama-approved way to spend the day in Kuala Lumpur with your kids?
I’ve just put together a brand-new KL itinerary for families – this time inspired by OiYO and their cute and convenient on-the-go mealtime sets 💕.
With the opening of their new store in KL (and the launch of some nifty new collections), I thought: why not plan a day out that looks a little something like this ⬇️
🌿 A breezy picnic at Perdana Botanical Gardens
🏠 Playtime at Bamboo Playhouse
🦌 Find Sang Kancil at Deer Park
🎢 Enjoy fun rides at an epic theme park (inside a mall!)
🐰 A stop at the new OiYO Studio
This KL itinerary is especially great for families looking for a good mix of outdoor adventures and indoor fun, with kid-friendly shopping thrown in thanks to OiYO Studio’s signature Play & Create experience.

Ready for the adventure? Let’s dive in!

Stop 1: Picnic at Perdana Botanical Gardens
Kick off the day with a family picnic at Perdana Botanical Gardens, one of KL’s best and most beautiful parks.
It’s huge (91.6 hectares / 226 acres to be exact) and is a lush wonderland filled with themed gardens, picnic lawns, and plenty of play areas (there are 3 playgrounds and 1 playhouse!).
🥪Recommended picnic spot: In the Heliconia Garden, right next to the iconic Canopy. There’s a shack and a few picnic tables, and it’s a short walk to the next steps on this itinerary.
👉 To get here: Walk past the Sunken Garden, continue straight with Oasis Garden on your left, and you’ll spot the Canopy ahead. It’s a stroller-friendly walk.

This picnic was our first time trying out OiYO’s new Mealtime Companion collection. The two-sized insulated pods were the perfect size for our mummy-and-me congee.
We packed along some condiments in the spill-proof Snacky Box, part of the new Mini Munch collection. I’ll go into more details on these products later in this article!

🚻 The nearest washrooms are opposite Oasis Garden
🕘 6.30am – 10pm daily

Stop 2: Play Time at Bamboo Playhouse
👉 Less than a 5-minute walk from Heliconia Garden
Right across from the picnic spot, you’ll find the whimsical Bamboo Playhouse.
Just cross the beautiful white bridge (great photo op spot!) and you’ll arrive at this open-air treehouse crafted out of bamboo.

It’s a magical spot for pretend play, climbing, and exploring – and if you’ve brought along a few picture books, it’s also a lovely nook for storytime.
PS. The white bridge has a few steps and isn’t very stroller-friendly.
📍Bamboo Playhouse, Perdana Botanical Gardens
🎟️ Free
🕘 6.30am – 8pm daily

Stop 3: Stroll Through Deer Park
👉 5-minute walk from Bamboo Playhouse
After some playtime, take a leisurely walk over to the Deer Park, tucked within Perdana Botanical Gardens.
It’s a charming little spot where kids can spot deer up close (in their enclosure).

It’s home to a few types of deer, but the real star here is the mousedeer – known locally as Sang Kancil.
This little cutie has a big reputation in Malaysian folklore, often outsmarting larger animals with its clever tricks.
We enjoy our Sang Kancil stories at home, so it was a pretty cool experience for us to spot one in real life!
The paths here are somewhat stroller-friendly (though just be careful of some potholes), shaded by trees, and perfect for a slow stroll.
You’ll also find benches if anybody needs a break or if you just want to take in all that greenery.
📍Deer Park, Perdana Botanical Gardens

🕘 6.30am – 8pm daily
Stop 4: Lunch at Berjaya Times Square
👉 About a 15-minute drive from Perdana Botanical Gardens
Time to fuel up before we head to the theme park!
Berjaya Times Square has a great selection of kid-friendly restaurants. Here are some of my fave picks:
- The Chicken Rice Shop: Affordable chicken rice sets for kids (love their origami placemats – keeps kids happily entertained while the food is being prepared).
- Bungkus Kaw Kaw: Budget-friendly local eats, including nasi lemak (ask for no sambal if ordering for your little ones) and lo mai gai (sticky soy sauce rice).
- I Love Yoo!: Soothing porridge sets.
- Hometown Hainan Coffee: Local coffeehouse serving a comforting menu of soup noodles, warm toasts, pastas, baked rice, and more.

Stop 5: Berjaya Times Square Theme Park
👉 Located on Level 5 and 7 of Berjaya Times Square
Welcome to one of the largest indoor theme parks in Malaysia – and yes, it’s right inside a shopping mall!
It’s a great way to have family-friendly fun while escaping KL’s scorching afternoon heat (or sudden rain).
For younger kids, head to the Fantasy Garden, a colorful zone with gentle rides, carousels, and fun play areas.

We mostly spent time in this area, checking out these rides:
- Botanic Drive: a cute jeep ride through a kiddy cave
- Buddy-Go-Round: carousel ride with some pretty whimsical creatures
- Crazy Bus: mini Ferris wheel (with a malfunctioning plot twist towards the end)
- Fantasy Trail: gentle train ride throughout Fantasy Garden
- Flying Bumblebee: kids control how high their bees fly
- Honey Bump: kid-friendly bumper cars
- Molly’s Cool Swing: giant swing ride
There’s also a kids’ playground in the area.

Older kids and brave parents (read: NOT me) can check out the Galaxy Station area, where you’ll find the twirly-whirly roller coaster (you’ll hear it before you see it – the screams echo all over the park).
It’s also where you’ll find more adrenaline-pumping rides like:
- DNA Mixer: An unhinged swing ride that will get you questioning life’s choices
- Dizzy Izzy: Spins you around harder than an overtired toddler’s mood swings
- Haunted House*: An extra anxiety boost in case parenthood isn’t scary enough
*Note: Pay-per-ride attraction
Family facilities are provided within the theme park:
- Washrooms
- Baby room
- Surau (prayer room)
- Lockers
📍Berjaya Times Square Theme Park
🕘 12pm – 9pm (Mondays – Fridays) | 11am – 9pm (Saturdays & Sundays)
🎟️ Admission:
- Adult Tickets: RM60 (Malaysian) | RM85 (non-Malaysian)
- Children Tickets (3 – 12 years old): RM50 (M’sian) | RM70 (non-M’sian)
- Senior Tickets (55 years old and above): RM22 (M’sian) | RM32 (non-M’sian)

Stop 6: Pick Out Cute Stuff At OiYO Studio
👉 Lower Ground Level, Berjaya Times Square (near Luckin Coffee)
OiYO Studio is the family-friendly sister brand of Montigo. Everything here is designed to make mealtimes easier and prettier – from bento-style lunchboxes to durable kids’ bottles.

✨ Highlight for little ones: The Play & Create stations! Kids can personalize their picks with exclusive prints (right now it’s an adorable Mini Bunny theme), name printing, and even fun sticker patches.
If you’re looking for thoughtful souvenirs or practical mealtime essentials, this spot is such a gem.
What’s new at OiYO:

This compact set includes a 450ml insulated food pod, a 280ml insulated snack pod, and a handy zipper pouch that fits the two snugly.
The one we have is in Pink Radish – it’s also available in a beautiful blue-hued Sea Salt.
This 3-in-1 bundle is currently on promo for just RM199. You can also buy them separately if you prefer.

This compact (650ml) and spill-proof snack box comes with 1 large compartment and 2 smaller sections – perfect for a fun mix of treats!
I really like the removable tray – it makes it super easy to clean.

These have got to be one of the most aesthetically on-point kids’ tumblers I’ve seen! The color-blocking design is just too cute! 😍
In true OiYO fashion, it’s super functional too. The 400ml bottle comes with a push-button cap (which makes the bouncy straw pop up!) and a soft sling strap.
I like that it has a wider mouth opening (compared to the Joy Bottle) – makes it easier to pop in some ice cubes, and it’s a breeze to clean too.

Mama’s Tips: Getting The Most Out Of Your KL Day Out
✔️ Arrive in the morning before it gets too hot. Between 8am – 9am is a great time!
✔️ Consider Grab over MRT for this itinerary – it’s quicker and easier with kids.
✔️ Eat before the theme park – the in-park food options didn’t seem too interesting.
✔️ Browse OiYO’s stuff ahead of your visit so you have a better plan on what to get.
