If you’re looking for horror-themed activities to check out, I’m sure you’ve seen Hauntu Kuala Lumpur come up in your search.
Spoiler alert: The production quality is 10/10! There are 2 locations in KL, each with a different theme: One is an eerie dance academy from the olden Malayan days and the other is a haunted hotel with disturbing secrets.
The question is: Are the Hauntu ticket prices worth it?
I’ll share all the pros and cons I can think of for Hauntu to give you some context, and you can decide if this attraction is for you. If you’re keen on going, you can use the promo code at the end to get some discounts on your booking. 😉
Now, full disclaimer: I am a chicken >.< I don’t do well with spooky stuff so I roped in my horror-obsessed sister for this attraction. Today’s review is based on her experience.
Okay, let’s get started!

What Is Hauntu Kuala Lumpur All About?
Hauntu Kuala Lumpur is a paranormal-themed attraction that’s basically a choose-your-own-ending horror movie – a horror movie that you get to fully immerse in, that is.
This may be needless to say, but Hauntu is LEGIT SCARY. Expect an eerie and discomforting ambiance, ghostly appearances (which may or may not chase you O.o), and jumpscares.
There are 2 locations, and each branch has its own theme.
Hauntu The Curve (PJ): Mystical Dance Academy
The premise here is that something seems a little off at this prestigious dance academy. You’re taken back to the ancient Malay Sultanate era and you’ll make your way through the dance academy, a scary kampung house, and a mystical forest.
The theme here revolves around folklore, dark magic, and scary creatures.
Anybody who’s a fan of Malaysian horror knows there’s nothing quite as creepy as a deranged woman’s lilting song, and Hauntu does an excellent job setting the tone with the use of traditional art and dance like Mak Yong and Wayang Kulit.
Hauntu The LINC (KL): The Haunted Hotel
At this location, you’re uncovering the disturbing history of a haunted hotel with stories set in the 1950s, 1980s, and 1990s. Something’s not right with the hotel workers, and as you explore deeper into the hotel the sinister presence here becomes stronger.
The theme here revolves around paranormal activities, rituals, and demons.
I love how this branch is an ode to classic horror films but with a Malaysian twist. We probably shouldn’t be as curious as we are about dark rituals but darn, it’s hard to look away!
Is Hauntu Kuala Lumpur An Escape Room Experience?
It’s not exactly an escape room as you’re not going around solving puzzles to advance through areas. It’s more of a rich, story-based experience.
The setting and storytelling make Hauntu Kuala Lumpur make it truly immersive – it really feels like you’re IN that story (which could be a good or bad thing depending on how easily you’re spooked haha).
There are also actors who will join your group at certain points to help guide the story.
I like that the endings will change depending on the choices your group makes along the way. You might survive, you might not – you might even get betrayed by someone you know!
PS. If you’re specifically looking for an escape room experience where you need to find clues and solve puzzles to make your way out, Breakout will be a better option for you. They have a new Spy Game experience that’s pretty cool!
Pros and Cons of Hauntu Kuala Lumpur
What I Like:
- 10/10 Production Quality: I can’t praise enough all the research that has gone into the stories, the settings and special effects, and the amazing actors. You’re basically experiencing a horror movie in real time!
- Great Pacing: You get to fully appreciate the skilled storytelling at a pace that doesn’t feel rushed. You’ll spend about 1 hour here.
- Plenty Of Context: You’ll get a safety and storyline briefing of the hotel or dance academy before going in, and a debriefing after. There are actors who will help to guide the story at certain points.
- Multiple Endings: I love how the choices you make carry a lot of weight as to how your story ends!
- New Stories Every Few Months: There’s always a new story to explore every few months so if you loved an episode you tried today, you can always go back and experience the theme in a whole other story the next time.
Things To Consider:
- Age Limit: As you might expect, this attraction is not suitable for kids under 7. It’s a fantastic option if you’re looking for teen activities though! Anyone 15 and above are welcome. Kids between 8 and 14 need an accompanying parent.
- Group Size: The attraction requires a minimum of 2 persons and a maximum of 10. You can have a private session with a booking of 9 persons. If you have less, you might be grouped with others for the same session.
- You Might Get Singled Out: Without giving out too many spoilers, there are certain parts where you might get chosen to do something… ALONE. O.o

Mama’s Tips For A Good Time At Hauntu KL
- Dress comfortably. Expect to crawl and climb (and… run?) so wear light, breathable clothes that are easy to move around in.
- Go with a bigger group if you think it might be too scary. A group of 10 makes the experience just the right amount of scary haha.
- Pay attention to the safety briefing so you’re clear on what you can or can’t do as part of the experience.
So, Are Hauntu Kuala Lumpur Tickets Worth It?
I’m all for supporting local productions and I think Hauntu Kuala Lumpur’s quality is well worth the admission.
Hauntu is especially worth it if you’re looking for attractions in Kuala Lumpur with teens. It’s such a unique experience for the whole fam!
Remember you can use these KKDay promo codes to knock the price down:
- For in-app purchases: JOMCUTI2 for RM20 off (minimum spend RM60).
- For desktop and in-app purchases: JOMCUTI15 for RM15 off (no minimum spend).
If you’re a family with toddlers and younger kids, however, Hauntu isn’t for you. You can make it a date with your partner though – just book these awesome (and well-trained) nannies beforehand to look after your little ones. 🙂
