M Resort & Hotel: KL’s Underrated Family Stay (Budget-Friendly Too!)

Planning a stay at M Resort & Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and wondering if it’s a good fit for your family? I’ve got the full scoop!

I’m Julie, a local mama on a Malaysian adventure with my daughter – and part of that is exploring family-friendly hotels to see if they’re actually worth staying at.

Now, M Resort?

✨100% WORTH IT! ✨

It’s actually one of the cheapest family hotels in Kuala Lumpur so I figured I’d adjust my expectations accordingly.

They exceeded them in every way! 💯

What makes M Resort & Hotel stay-worthy for families:

  • A cozy kids’ club with a fun playground and daily activities
  • A playful pool area with a kid-friendly slide
  • Beautiful common area with chill resort vibes
  • Excellent food (breakfast buffet and in-room dining)
  • Clean and super comfy bedrooms
  • Warm and helpful service
  • Close to Phileo Damansara MRT Station

That being said, there are a few things about the hotel that make it a not-so-popular pick for a family-friendly stay – I’ll share more about these in the full review below.

Vibe Check: Is M Resort & Hotel Worth It For Families?

If you’re looking for a resort-style staycation in KL without a hefty price tag, M Resort hits that sweet spot.

I booked a 2-night stay here for a mummy-daughter staycation with the goal of doing… basically nothing. Just lazy mornings, chill pool time, and room service – and M Resort totally delivered.

I LOVE the resort feel!

They set the mood so well, it made me feel like I wasn’t in hectic KL anymore. When we took the shuttle to the MRT station and left the hotel, it felt like a rude awakening to where we really were 😅.

We went with a standard room, and it was modern, clean, and super comfy enough for our stay.

The kid-friendly facilities are lots of fun!

We spent a lot of time at the cozy kids’ club, lounging around under the sun, and relaxing in the bubbly pools.

The service here is genuinely warm. We were met with cheery smiles regardless of whether we were at breakfast, kids’ club, or the pool. I’ll tell you a little story later about something the concierge for my daughter did that just warmed my heart.

On the flip side, it’s not smack in the middle of the city.

But if you’re open to exploring lesser-known family-friendly gems in nearby Mont Kiara, Bangsar, TTDI, or Mutiara Damansara, then it’s actually a great place to stay.

Just keep in mind that you’ll need a car or Grab if you want to head out.

The Phileo Damansara MRT is nearby, but the walk there involves lots of stairs and crossing over a drain, so not recommended with young kids and strollers.

M Resort & Hotel: Pros & Cons For Families

What I love:

Affordable rates (starting from RM268/night)

✅ Cozy kids’ club with a playground and daily activities

✅ Playful, kid-friendly pool with a slide

✅ Clean and comfortable rooms

✅ Breezy common area – love the resort feel!

✅ Warm and incredibly thoughtful service

Things to consider:

❌ Not located in KL city center

❌ Not walkable to malls or shops

❌ Not safe for families to walk to the MRT station

What Kids Will Love At M Resort & Hotel

Kids’ Club

The cozy kids’ club is split into 2 zones:

  • On one side, there’s a playground with a slide, ball pit, and interactive wall panels
  • On the other end, a quieter activity area for coloring, crafts, and pretend play

There are daily activities like arts and crafts and coloring sessions that kids can join in during their stay.

They also screen kids’ movies at set times – otherwise, expect Cocomelon on loop (you’ve been warned 😅).

Washrooms and a water dispenser are conveniently located inside.

Kids’ Pool

The beach-like pool design is really nice! The sloped entry points make it especially easy for toddlers to wade in safely.

There are multiple depth levels throughout the pool – the kids’ area is near the slide.

There are in-pool decks that can be especially fun for babies and toddlers to splash away!

The slide is the main highlight, and it’s great fun! Just be very careful and make sure your little ones are going down the kids’ one and not the adults’ one – the latter goes into deep water.

Mini Bubble Pools

These little jacuzzis were my daughter’s absolute favourite (my sore bones didn’t mind the bubbly massage myself!).

Tucked into leafy corners around the pool, they feel private and peaceful.

Lounge Area

We loved the laid-back poolside vibe – plenty of lounge chairs for sunbathing, reading, or munching on snacks.

The seating areas in the outer lobby are cozy too. They serve up some pretty interesting snack sets!

Yoga Room

There’s a yoga room tucked inside the gym. It’s not a designated kids’ space, but it’s a nice option for some calming movements.

In-Room Entertainment

The in-room movie selection is pretty up-to-date – perfect if you’re planning on spending some time relaxing in the room.

Also, I was so happy to see a whole bunch of Vision Four channels! Maybe it’s just my niche childhood memory, but they’ve always reminded me of fun hotel stays growing up – and I hardly see them around anymore these days.

Buggy Ride

Not technically a kids’ amenity… but tell that to my daughter who treats every buggy ride like an amusement park attraction 😂

If you’re parked in the multi-storey car park, the hotel buggy will ferry you to the entrance – a quick but fun little ride for kids!

On our last day, my daughter was visibly teary about having our little vacay come to an end. The concierge noticed, and since it was just the two of us on the buggy, he offered to take us on a slow ride around the grounds to cheer her up.

I was floored by the kindness. I might’ve been the one who was teary in the end.

Our Room At M Resort & Hotel

Room type: Standard Block View King Room (28㎡ / ~301 sq ft)

The space feels just right for a small family – roomy enough for two adults and up to two young kids.

Our view wasn’t much – it was mostly blocked by the main hotel building and overlooks a bit of the hotel entrance – but honestly, that wasn’t a biggie for me.

Other options include Golf Course View, Pool View, or City View if you want something more scenic.

The king bed was so comfy (you can opt for twin beds in the same room category if that suits your family better).

The room also comes with a desk, mini sitting area, compact wardrobe, and a fridge. The bathroom has both a rain shower and a regular shower, plus a toilet with a bidet.

One quirky feature: the see-through bathroom wall. My daughter thought it was hilarious she could watch TV while showering 😂 (Don’t worry – there’s a pull-down blind if you need privacy!)

👉Tip: If a bathtub is a must-have for you, check out their Suite options.

The Food At M Resort & Hotel

Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast is actually pretty darn good! Both my daughter and I really enjoyed it.

There’s a Japanese section here – I don’t always see that at hotel breakfasts. It was super comforting to start our morning with warm miso soup, chawan mushi, and grilled saba.

Also, I don’t usually pay much attention to local food at these things but the Malaysian food selection here is pretty interesting! They had the usual nasi lemak, but there’s also rarer stuff like lontong. The roti canai is freshly made on the spot too!

The cold cuts section is so good! I may have gone a little overboard with the generous slabs of smoked duck (zero regrets). There’s also a decent spread of cheeses, pickles, and breads – basically your own little DIY charcuterie board situation.

Coffee is available with their WMF coffee machine – not the best I gotta say, but does the job. Other drink options include a selection of teas, teh tarik, fruit juices, and refreshing fruit-infused water.

In-Room Dining

On our second night, we ordered in from the Little Diners menu and it turned out to be a lovely, fuss-free dinner.

The Fried Rice (RM26) had a surprisingly good wok hei – that delish, smoky char you don’t always get with room service fried rice.

The Chicken Bolognese (RM33) was a classic kid-approved choice with its comforting and simple flavors.

M Resort & Hotel Location

M Resort & Hotel is tucked away just outside the hustle and bustle of central KL, offering a more relaxed, resort-style setting – but still close enough for quick city access when you need it.

📌Address: Jalan Damansara, Bukit Kiara, 60000 Kuala Lumpur

Distance to popular spots (by car):

  • Pavilion Damansara Heights: 5km (~ 10-minute drive)
  • KLCC: 15km (~ 20-minute drive)
  • Pavilion KL: 15km (~ 20-minute drive)
  • The Exchange TRX: 15km (~ 20-minute drive)
  • Kuala Lumpur International Airport: 60km (~ 1 hour drive)

🏞️ What’s Nearby?

While it’s not in the heart of KL’s tourist zone, M Resort is in the perfect location for exploring KL’s most family-friendly neighbourhoods:

It’s a quieter, more local vibe – perfect if you want a break from the city crowds.

🚘Parking Situation

You’ve got two parking options: a covered multi-storey carpark or an open-air lot nearby.

✅ Parking is free throughout your stay – just remember to validate your car plate number and room number at the concierge each time you plan to drive out.

🚇MRT Accessibility

There is an unofficial walking route to the Phileo Damansara MRT station – but according to some of the staff I spoke to, it involves a lot of stairs and crossing a drain. It’s not ideal if you’ve got a stroller or younger kids.

The hotel offers a free one-way shuttle to the MRT at these times:

  • 8 a.m.
  • 2 p.m.
  • 6 p.m.

Just give the concierge a call to book a spot.
