29 Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants In KL (Local Mama’s Review 2025)

From the Author: Kid-friendly restaurants in KL are one of my fave things about being a mama in Malaysia. I get to enjoy (actually hot) coffee and my toddler gets to have her fun in the play area!

When I was catching up with my mum friends from Melbourne and Munich, I didn’t realize that play cafes aren’t as popular in other parts of the world.

Thankfully, KL has LOTS of them! The kids’ sections keep the little ones well entertained while parents have the chance to enjoy a meal and catch up with friends.

1. Abby’s Play Cafe

I LOVE Abby’s! This spacious 2-level cafe dedicates its entire upper level to a fun play area with a variety of activities! It’s so cozy too ❤️

What I Like:

  • A good range of play activities to keep the kids engaged: There’s a multi-level climber with slides, a ball pit, a kitchenette, a cozy reading nook, and a magnetic wall.
  • The food is delicious! The menu has a comforting home-cooked vibe with Japanese and Western classics. The matcha’s nice too!
  • There’s a thoughtful regulating corner cuz we all know how overstimulated little ones can get from indoor playgrounds sometimes.
  • Awesome visibility of the play area from the dining tables.
  • Plenty of plug points provided, so you can get some work done while the kids play.
  • Nappy-changing room, nursing room, and kid-friendly washroom is conveniently located right by the dining area.

Things To Consider:

  • There’s a minimum spend of RM35 per adult and RM10 per child.
  • Parking is pretty confusing! Thankfully, the cafe provides a handy parking guide.

Plan your visit to Abby’s:

2. Ngam Ngam Neighbourhood

This cute spot serves fast food with a wholesome twist, and I’m into it! We went to the one in Tropicana Gardens Mall and I love the minimalist play area. My daughter and I had a wonderful time cackling away, making full use of the adult-friendly slide >.<

What I Like:

  • Decent protein-rich menu options! I love that they offer ala carte options so you can build your own platters with things you do eat and avoid food waste.
  • Work-friendly for parents, with plug points and good visibility of the play area.
  • Ngam Ngam outlets are all in malls, which is convenient if you need to pick up groceries or do some shopping.

Things To Consider:

  • There’s a RM20 minimum spend per adult and RM10 per child.
  • The playground varies from outlet to another. The Lalaport location’s playground is pretty extensive!

Plan your trip to Ngam Ngam Neighbourhood:

  • Outlets: Lalaport BBCC |Tropicana Gardens Mall | Nu Sentral | IOI City Mall Putrajaya (this location doesn’t have a playground though)

3. The Red Beanbag

This Aussie-style brunch spot is my #1 pick for coffee dates with our family friends while our kids have a blast climbing, sliding, building, and reading in the extensive play corner.

What I Like:

  • EXCELLENT food and coffee!
  • Imaginative kids’ menu with plenty of whole foods-based options. We love our protein and I like that there’s a boiled egg option to add on to my daughter’s meals.
  • Well-curated toddler-friendly area with a treehouse, Pikler-style climbers, open-ended blocks, and a wall-to-wall bookshelf stocked with books.
  • Nursing and nappy-changing room, conveniently stocked with Applecrumby & Fitch baby supplies.
  • There’s a plug point at one of the corner tables.

Things To Consider:

  • The play area has limited viewability from the dining tables.
  • The play area is on the first floor of the cafe, which is only accessible by stairs.
  • It closes early at 5 p.m.
  • To access the toilets, you’ll have to head downstairs and out of the restaurant and grab a keycard from the guard’s desk in the lobby.

Plan your visit to The Red Beanbag:

4. Marmalade

Marmalade is one of the OG play cafes in KL, keeping little ones well entertained with their cheery play area (and mamas sane with their stellar lattes).

What I Like:

  • EXCELLENT food and coffee! Through the years, we’ve eaten our way through most of the adults’ and kids’ menus and we’ve yet to be disappointed with anything we ordered.
  • The kids’ menu has a great selection of protein-rich dishes. We always go for the Teriyaki Chicken Rice. I love that the fun food options here (like the Fish Fingers and Chicken Tenders) are homemade 🙂
  • It’s in a mall so I can also make a grocery run.
  • The mall’s baby changing room and nursing room are just a few steps away from the restaurant.
  • There are plug points at some tables. You can also sit at high tables overlooking the play area.

Plan your visit to Marmalade:

5. NIPPORI (1 UTAMA Branch)

Nippori is one of our go-to spots in Publika whenever we feel like some super satisfying Japanese sets – and now we’ve found that the 1 Utama branch has a cozy play area for kids!

Request to sit near the play area – the seats overlook the play area so you can keep an eye on the little ones while enjoying your eats!

The food here is incredible! I love the Butter Oyster Teppanyaki set, it’s too good! The kids’ sets are wonderful too – take your pick from a chicken karaage set or a grilled salmon set.

What I Like:

  • Cozy, minimalist play area with slides and climbers, and playful panels for younger ones.
  • Hearty Japanese sets – for both kids and adults!
  • Awesome visibility of the play area from the dining tables near the play area.
  • This branch feels pretty upscale – a wonderful spot if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion.

Things To Consider:

  • Meals are on the pricier side.
  • Not the best option if you’re looking for work-friendly vibes – it’s more of a leisurely lunch / dinner spot.

Plan your visit to Nippori (1 Utama):

6. TinyDay Cafe & Playhouse

I love how much thought goes into making this play cafe safe, comfortable, and fun for families! I especially appreciate the great visibility of the play area from the dining tables.

You’ll notice there aren’t any sharp edges in the cafe. All the furniture has rounded corners. Gotta love those little kid-friendly details!

Image: TinyDay Cafe & Playhouse

What I Like:

  • The epic play area! There’s a slide, ball pit, wonderful books section, blocks, kitchenette, and all kinds of toys.
  • A baby changing room and nursing room are provided in the cafe.
  • Excellent food and coffee at decent prices!
  • The kids’ menu is wholesome. I like the Tiny Breakfast Set – it comes with eggs, chicken cubes, sourdough, fresh fruits, and fresh milk.

Things To Consider:

  • There’s an entrance fee of RM5 on weekdays and RM8 on weekends. The fees apply to kids between 1 to 7 years old.

Plan your visit to TinyDay Cafe & Playhouse:

7. Open Playhouse

This imaginative play cafe offers kids plenty to do! Besides the fun play area and kids’ menu, Open Playhouse also hosts all kinds of kids’ activities too!

What I Like:

  • They host super interesting activities! I’ve seen storybook writing, cookie baking, shadow puppet theater, and mirror decorating. Book your spot in advance.
  • Great spot to host kids’ parties!
  • Lots of plug points for this mama to get some work done 🙂
  • The IPC mall’s baby changing room and nursing room are on the same level as Open Playhouse.

Things To Consider:

  • There’s a RM10 (USD$2) fee per child to access the play area. However, the entry fee is waived with a minimum F&B purchase of RM30 (USD$6).

Plan your visit to Open Playhouse:

  • Outlets: IPC | United Point | Citta Mall (this branch is the biggest and has a nifty home-away-from-home concept!)

PS. If you’re in IPC and you’re looking for a free kids’ play area, there’s a playground right in front of Open Playhouse.

Free indoor playground in KL at IPC Shopping Center.

IPC actively hosts free kids’ activities too! Check the app to see what’s on.

8. Kyoot Play Cafe @ Maisson Ara Damansara

This kid-friendly cafe has a wonderful, modular play area! You’ll notice there aren’t actually any toys in the play area but loads of open-ended materials like cones, foam blocks, and BettarPlay cushions.

I spoke to the cheery owner Liz and she shares that the idea behind the toy-free play space is to encourage imagination and a happier playing experience. She laughs, “No need to fight over toys!” – I’m onboard >.<

The menu is pretty limited at the moment, but it has a comforting, homemade feel. The coffee’s not bad too.

What I Like:

  • The play area has decent viewability from the dining area.
  • They host all kinds of activities for kids AND parents!
  • The play area takes up a huge part of the cafe – makes for an awesome spot for birthday parties.
  • Some tables have a plug point if you’re planning on working while your kids play.
  • There’s a basic nursing and nappy-changing room beside the play area.

Things To Consider:

  • The building’s basement parking area is badly lit. You might want to Grab your way here.
  • There’s a RM15 (USD$3) entry fee per child for the play area. It’s waived with a minimum RM40 (USD$8) F&B purchase.

Plan your visit to Kyoot Play Cafe:

✈️ Travel Tip for Visiting Parents:

If you’re visiting KL with your little ones, don’t forget to get travel medical insurance!

I like SafetyWing’s Nomad Essential plan – it’s affordable and can be purchased even after your trip has started. Plus, kids under 10 are insured for free when added to your plan (1 child per adult policyholder).

If you’re planning on staying in Malaysia long-term, check out SafetyWing’s Nomad Complete plan – coverage includes maternity care and mental wellness too!

8. Madam Kwan @ 163 Retail Park

Madam Kwan is an awesome local chain for some Malaysian comfort food. The outlet at 163 Retail Park in Mont Kiara has the added bonus of a kids’ play area!

@mamasguidetomalaysia

Mamas! Did you know the Madam Kwan at 163 Retail Park has a mini play area? 😍 If you know of any other Madam Kwan outlets with a kids’ corner, let this mama know! ❤️

♬ Lil Boo Thang – Paul Russell

What I Like:

  • Decent selection of kids’ meals. The chicken rice is super flavorful! My daughter loves the chicken noodle soup too.
  • Simple but fun play area, with a slide and a little corner filled with some toys and books.
  • The beautiful sweeping view overlooking Mont Kiara!
  • There’s a baby changing room and nursing room in the mall on Level 1 and Level 3.

Things To Consider:

  • Although the main dish in the kids’ meals is delicious, it would be great to see more wholesome sides added to them rather than just ultra-processed stuff like jellies, marshmallows, and Milo.

Plan your visit to Madam Kwan @ 163 Retail Park:

9. The Little Play Area/The Pantry

This food court with a well-curated play area is truly a hidden gem in Mont Kiara!

The entry fee is reasonable for the fun stuff available on offer for kids – and you can have it waived with a meal at the next-door The Pantry.

What I Like:

  • The play area has a wonderful mix of activities including climbing structures, a kitchenette, super fun toys, and a fun collection of books!
  • They host plenty of fun events, from storytelling to neurodivergent-friendly baking sessions.

Things To Consider:

  • There’s a RM15 entry fee per child. Alternatively, you can spend a minimum of RM15 at The Pantry and get free entry.
  • Food at The Pantry is pretty mid – it’s okay if you just want something basic but not so much if you’re looking for legit local eats.

Plan your visit to The Little Play Area:

10. La Juiceria Superfoods @ Nadi Bangsar

Known for its refreshing juices, La Juiceria’s colorful menu also includes fun twists on Malaysian favorites.

I like the Fried Quinoa! My daughter likes the Nasi Lemak Bowl, which comes with quinoa and turmeric rice.

Indoor playground at kid friendly restaurant in KL La Juiceria Bangsar.

What I Like:

  • Beautiful kids’ section with a two-level playhouse and a cafe play area.
  • Opens early at 8 a.m. and closes pretty late at 10 p.m.
  • One of the easier places to park in Bangsar, as it’s in a residential building with plenty of visitor parking available.
  • There are plug points at some tables.

I actually haven’t been here in a while. I didn’t check if they had a baby changing room in or near the restaurant, but I’ll update again the next time I’m here!

Plan your visit to La Juiceria Superfoods @ Nadi Bangsar:

11. TTDI Meat Point

I grew up in TTDI and have a soft spot for this neighborhood’s go-to joint for good steaks. Not many people know that this steakhouse actually has a huge soft play area!

What I Like:

  • You can pick your own steak cuts from the chiller and customize how you want them cooked. I love that you can request for just salt and pepper for the steak seasoning.
  • They have an extensive Jungle Gym-like playroom complete with multi-level climbers, slides, and a ball pit!

Things To Consider:

  • The kids’ menu is pretty standard – mostly pasta dishes, sausages, and nuggets.

Plan your visit to TTDI Meat Point:

12. Tedboy Bakery @ Jaya One

My daughter loves the play area at Tedboy! They took up a pretty big corner of the cafe and turned it into a mini play cafe for kids to serve up their own sandwiches and coffees. So fun 😀

What I Like:

  • The huge play area with kitchenettes and the cutest Hape coffee machines.
  • They serve babycino for kids, and I like that they have bite-sized desserts!
  • Their sourdough sandwiches are yums. I like the Chicken Avocado.
  • The mall has a baby room on the same level.

Plan your visit to Tedboy Bakery @ Jaya One:

13. Noriter (non-halal)

Noriter takes play seriously, offering up a space with all kinds of toys for all ages!

Younger kids will enjoy the main play area, while older kids can check out their impressive Lego collection.

What I Like:

  • The main play area has a full grocery section, kitchenette, construction toys, a train set, dollhouses, and soft blocks.
  • They host weekly kids’ activities, from music classes to sensory sessions.

Things To Consider:

  • The cafe serves pork. We came here for a playdate and had our lunch elsewhere.
  • There’s an hourly charge to play here.
  • Socks are required in the play area.
  • I’m just not a fan of Plaza Arkadia in general. Navigating the parking and shop lots gets super confusing.

Plan your visit to Noriter:

Family Restaurants In KL I Don’t Recommend

Ben’s @ The LINC KL

There’s a play area so yay for that but… it’s half indoor and half outdoor, which feels pretty unsafe to me. It’s hard to enjoy the coffee date when my eyes keep darting to the play area every few seconds, thinking how easily kids could get snatched up from passersby 🥴

Kid-Friendly Cafes In KL: Final Tips

A lot of family cafes in KL require socks to enter the play area so to be on the safe side, just bring along pairs for everyone 🙂

Most of these spots will also revise their play area availability daily – sometimes they close for private parties and other times for sanitizing. Check their schedule before going.
