If you’re on the hunt for a thrilling experience in Kuala Lumpur with teens, I recommend checking out the new Spy Game at The Curve by the highly-rated escape room brand Breakout!
I wrote about Hauntu KL recently and I know a lot of you LOVE the production quality but just can’t stomach horror, so Spy Game is an excellent thriller-based alternative. They’re both by the same operator so you’re still getting that rich storytelling and immersiveness.
What I like about Spy Game?
- Instead of paranormal stuff, you’re in the thick of a mission to stop the LUDDITE cult (I’m a total chicken when it comes to ghosts but give me a good culty storyline and I’M IN!)
- It’s a richer experience compared to standard escape rooms – there are patrol guards that you need to hide from throughout your mission.
- Reasonable pricing for the experience you get (it’s cheaper than Hauntu). You can also use these KKday promo codes for extra discounts: JOMCUTI2 for RM20 off (in-app bookings only) | JOMCUTI15 for RM15 off
Things to consider:
- It’s 30 minutes per session, which feels a bit short.
- It’s not an escape room in the traditional sense – it’s not so much puzzle-focused, but more on completing the mission.
- It’s not a great fit for families with toddlers. This attraction is catered to players aged 14 and above.

What is Spy Game All About?
Spy Game is a new immersive adventure from Breakout.
The game brings you face-to-face with the mysterious LUDDITE cult, founded post-Y2K to fight against technology.
Here’s a little teaser:
Your mission is to uncover the secrets behind this cult while navigating various challenges – and yes, there are live actors playing patrol guards that you’ll need to hide from as you complete each task.
There are five missions to choose from. Each mission presents its own obstacles and difficulty levels, so no two experiences are the same. All missions connect to the LUDDITE storyline but they don’t need to be played in order.
is Spy Game An Escape Room?
Spy Game is sort of an escape room but with a twist.
Rather than a bunch of puzzles to solve, the focus here is on completing mission objectives within a set timeframe, while staying hidden from patrol guards.
This activity is best suited for adults and teens who can appreciate a suspenseful, immersive story. Some missions require more physical activities than others. Check out the next section to see which mission suits your party best.
Mission Options at Spy Game The Curve
Spy Game offers five unique, high-stakes missions, each immersing you deeper into the cult’s shadowy world:
Mission 1: Purify
Difficulty: Easy (great option for first-timers)
This mission lets you step in as an outsider trying to help cult followers regain their senses. The cult’s leaders have drugged the water supply, and it’s up to you to purify it by infusing an antidote. Light climbing and balancing involved.
Mission 2: Rescue
Difficulty: Hard
One of your fellow agents went undercover but was captured by the cult. In this mission, you and your team split into two groups to execute a daring rescue. It requires a bit more physical interaction as moderate wall climbing and crawling is involved.
Mission 3: Break In
Difficulty: Hard
Suspecting the cult might be hiding dark secrets, you’re tasked with breaking in to steal documents revealing the cult’s true nature. This mission involves pretty tricky balancing.
Mission 4: Sneak In
Difficulty: Medium (but best for 18 and up)
This mission involves retrieving crucial evidence of cult activities. It’s a physical feat with difficult balancing, extreme climbing, and crawling, and an additional layer of suspense as you work to avoid detection.
Mission 5: Destroy (coming soon)
Fueled by revenge, you infiltrate the cult’s sacred space to plant a homemade bomb and put an end to their operations. Although physically demanding, this mission is family-friendly, adding an explosive finale to the game with minimal scare factor, perfect for groups wanting a climactic end to their Spy Game experience.
Pros & Cons of Spy Game
What I Like:
- Top-notch production quality: Produced by the same talents behind the legendary Hauntu – the atmosphere, storytelling, and live actors are all fantastic, making you feel like you’re actually sneaking around an eerie cult HQ.
- Rich, immersive experience: Unlike traditional escape rooms, Spy Game is less about puzzles and more about completing specific tasks, which makes it feel fresh and exciting. Having to be wary of the patrolling NPCs add a whole level of suspense.
- Different ways to explore the storyline: Having different missions to choose from lets you experience the LUDDITE storyline from different angles, which is pretty cool!
Things To Consider:
- Short session time: At just 30 minutes, the session flies by super quickly.
- Recommended for older kids and teens: Kids under 7 can play for free, and you can bring them with you. That being said, even though it’s not a horror game, it can be pretty scary for young kids so I don’t recommend this activity for toddlers.
- Not a traditional escape room: If you’re after classic escape room-style puzzles, this isn’t it. The tasks here are mission-focused, so if you prefer logic puzzles, consider Breakout’s escape rooms.

It’s an awesome choice for family outings with older kids or teens who can handle a bit of suspense.
